Fire Apparatus Engineer (FAE) is designed to give basic entry level skills necessary for those who operate pumps and drive fire apparatus. Subject coverage includes pump theory, pumping equipment, fireground hydraulics and preventative maintenance.
Practical evolutions will include hands-on with actual apparatus, charging single, multiple and master stream lines and devices. Drafting, water shuttles and alternative water supply sources will also be covered. Introduction into basic routine maintenance aimed at insuring operational readiness of the apparatus and troubleshooting problems.
Class meets intent of NFPA 1002 and will cover all skills and knowledge for the student to meet the OSFM FAE certification level. Students will complete all course work and will complete required final practicals. Sponsoring department is responsible for completing its own driver evaluations on apparatus that the student would be expected to operate.
This is an OSFM certified class. Students will be eligible to challenge the state test at the completion of this class. This is a 48 hour class.
